Ground Ready...
Arsenal Managing Director Keith Edelman has declared the new ground almost open. He said: "It is going extremely well. There is still some finishing off work to do of course. There is a lot of cleaning up but essentially the executive boxes are complete and Club Level is done. We have a little bit of work to be done on the general concourse but we are practically there. We are ready to go. We will get the stadium from the builders very soon, and we are looking forward to that and our three 'ramp-up' events. There will be a shareholders event in the middle of July, then a Members Day for about 20,000 supporters. After that of course there is Dennis Bergkamp's testimonial on July 22 before the season starts on August 19 with Aston Villa..."
Kahn Praise for Lehmann...
Oliver Kahn has finally praised Jens Lehmann for his performances on the international stage. You may remember Kahn was usurped as Germany's numero eins by our very own Jens, and has been fumigating about it every since, but Kahn said: "Klinsmann has decided against me which was not easy for me but I have accepted it and will now try to bring in my experience and try to help where I can, of course there have been moments when I was frustrated. Jens' performance has been flawless. He plays very calmly and balanced. It is very important that he gives the back line stability and that is what he does. He communicates a lot. We have kept three clean sheets and that speaks for itself..."
Deal Klose...?
All sorts of headline shennanigans afoot with the news that
representatives of Miroslav Klose have been in touch with Arsenal. It looks like its us and man united who lead the race the sign the 28 year old striker. His agent Alexander Shutt has said he's had enquiries from both teams and Bremen insist he's not for sale, but a bid in excess of £11m could force their hand into letting him leave for England... you heard it here first readers - well, you probably heard it from the site we copied it from, but you heard it here second anyway...
Revenge is a Dish etc...
Thierry Henry reckons the victory over Spain was the perfect way to get back at Luis Aragones following his racist slur on Henry last year. Aragones made remarks to Jose Antonio Reyes during training, and there has been bad blood between the two countries ever since, French fans booing the Spanish national anthem (Le Démérara Çarréra - We Throw Goats out of Windows) on Tuesday. Following France's 3-1 victory, Henry said: "A lot of people were speculating about Aragones and I don't want to talk about it because there is no point, but the best answer was the win..."
The Spaniards also booed the French National anthem (Lemon Mayonnaise) and Henry was disappointed: "I think you should respect the national anthem of another country. They do whatever they want to do, but I thought it was a bit below par. Everybody found that a great shame..." As mentioned yesterday, Henry found himself embroiled in another storm after going down clutching his face, when it was clear he only got an arm across his chest...
