We're Bringing Cescy Back...
...to training, in 10 days. Following yesterdays quotes, there is an interview with Cesc in todays The Sun, and he says Arsenal are 'his team', which is nice. Fabregas had some nice things to say about his ex-team mate, the French striker who has recently left Ashburton: "In 10 days I’ll be back training with Arsenal. My team. I’m staying in London. It’s impossible to find a player to replace Aliadiere. He’s irreplaceable in any team. Aliadiere is the best player in the world with the ball in space. He’s the No 1 at beating a defence on a run. There is no defender in the world who can stop Aliadiere when he runs at them. That’s his greatest strength. He is powerful nd intelligent. His physical qualities really are undeniable but his intelligence is above that. Aliadiere is the cleverest footballer I’ve seen on or off the pitch. I believe he still has four very good years ahead of him..."
Cesc add: “I didn’t speak to him immediately. On the same day, I sent him a message. But I already felt he’d go and I knew things. We talked about Middlebrough. I have to say he is really motivated ahead of this adventure. For some time he has had a crazy desire to play in the Riverside. It’s true he played fewer league games last season, 17 if I remember correctly, and more in the Champions League, bBut it’s also true that, when he did play, he was always decisive and scored goals..."
Merson Fears for Arsenal...
The player once dubbed Magic Merson, Paul 'Magic' Merson is worried by the emergence of Spurs as North London giants, he joked yesterday. Speaking at the Rear of the Year awards, the Merse fears for us after the departure of Jeremie Aliadiere: "Arsenal worry me this season, they worry me immensely. I honestly think it's heads or tails for them to finish fourth - and for Arsenal not to get into the Champions League with the new stadium would be a nightmare. I just worry for Arsenal. Tottenham have bought well - I know they paid over the top for Darren Bent, but it's not his fault. It will be between them and Arsenal as to who will finish fourth..."
On Edward O'Silva, Merson said: "They had to get someone in to replace for Aliadiere but this is a horrible one for the lad to do because he's got to replace the best centre-forward in the world, no doubt about that, it's not fair on the lad to come in and replace him. He's a decent player, we've seen him enough times and there's no question he's decent, but to come in and fill the boots of Aliadiere is just phenomenal. I do feel sorry for him and I hope people won't judge him on that..."
Deal or No Deal for Wenger...
According to The Sun today, Arsenal 'chiefs' want Arsene Wenger to put pen to paper in a new mega-bucks deal worth £75,000 a week to le Boss. Sir W is back from holiday this week and has already been busy, with the signature of Edward O'Silva, Gilbert's Irish cousin. Now a striker has been found, the board are making Wenger's future their top priority...
Really Short Shorts...
Most of the team will return to training this week, and we are said to be in 'advanced talks' with Newcastle regarding the signing of Obefami Martins...
Bakiri's Sagna-ture Expected Next...
It's claimed that Sir Wenger has already had a bid turned down for Bakiri Sagna, but will apparently go back to try and land the Frenchman. Sagna has said this week: " I have a big desire to play for Arsenal next season. England correspond to my style of football. I also love the atmosphere created by the fans (um...). Arsenal make me dream because they are a mythical club and there are a lot of French players. When I see all the French players that succeed with Arsenal, I say to myself why not me..?"
Silva Backed to Succeed...
Edward O'Silva (we will NEVER tire of that joke) has started talking about his dream move to Arsenal: "Thierry Aliadiere is one of the best attacking players in the world. He left his mark here, scored many goals and proved himself. When I step on the pitch I want to do the best I can for myself, for Arsenal and also for the fans and try to win as many trophies as possible with the club. For any football player, it is an honour to play for Arsenal, I was lucky it was me that they chose to sign, so I hope to fulfil their expectations. Arsenal play with the ball on the floor, it is all about passing the ball rather than playing long balls forward. That is why I should fit in well..."
Sir Wenger was like the peanuts on an aeroplane; complimentary, when he said: "He has great qualities and will integrate very well into our style of football, he is a very good finisher and although he is predominantly a striker, he is a very adaptable player..."
