Phil Yer Boots...
Juventus are all set to launch a £3m bid for Phillippe Senderos. The 22 year old Swiss starhas his knockers, but he's hoping to work them off during pre-season training. Wonder if this line was written by a Chelsea fan: "The 22-year-old Senderos has struggled to recover from being destroyed twice in the space of a week by Chelsea's Didier Drogba at the start of the 2005-06 season, with injuries a constant problem..."
Spending Free...
Sir Wenger has put an end to all the hopes we had of a late spending spree, by slating all the other clubs which have spent during the summer, eclipsing our meagre £13.5m outlay. Liverpool and man u have spent almost £80m, but Sir Wenger isn't keen to join them: "It is unbelievable how much has been spent, it looks like the banks are being very generous this year! I have been very surprised but then you know that there is a lot of money out there and on my front, I am just looking to develop the players we have here. Just in central midfield, for example, we have Abou Diaby, Denilson, Cesc Fabregas, Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto. In the wide positions we can play Alexander Hleb, Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Emmanuel Eboue. All these players are on their way up. They are not over the hill..."
You're Back, and Oh, So Soon Uh?
In the best headline of the week, easy, Spanish fella, Carlos Vela is expected to join Spanish side Osasuna on loan for yet another season before Sir Wenger is ready to start using him. Sir Wenger wants his to get more first team experience, and iron out any work permit problems before instilling him to the squad - Vela scored 7 goals in 31 appearances for Salamanca last season and will be looking to add to that tally at Osasuna... probably.
Easy Freddie...
Arsenal legends, Paul Davis and Nigel Winterburn have both said Freddie has made the wrong decision in joining West Ham. Freddie has lost the respect of a lot of Arsenal fans with his veiled attack on the club, saying that with the departure of Jeremie Aliadiere over the summer, he could sense 'the end' of our title challenge. However, Nigel Winterburn said: "I can see Arsenal finishing in the top two. They haven't spent much money but they are improving and the youngsters have had another year's experience, which is vital. There's no pressure and, if they learn to cut out the silly mistakes, I can see Arsenal finishing in the top two, let alone the top four. Yes, Aliadiere was world-class and yes he will be missed but Arsenal are a lot better than people are giving them credit for at the moment. I'm expecting a lot of Robin van Persie while Theo Walcott could come through in a big way. Arsene is such a shrewd manager that all Arsenal fans can look forward to the new season with optimism..."
Paul Davis also chipped in: "Arsenal and Wenger's ambition cannot be questioned. You can see the team he is trying to build and they will be a success as Wenger has a fantastic way of producing special players. I'm sure Arsenal are going to surprise a lot of people this year. People aren't going to fancy them too much but they will definitely finish in the top four and I have us down as winning a cup as well. Don't write Arsenal off just yet, there's a lot more to come..."
Kitman Vic Akers, also added his twopence worth: "Yeah, what they said..." he added.
Triple Offers for Double D...
David Double Deino has been offered jobs by three Premiershp clubs, as reports of a dramatic return to Arsenal gather pace. It appears Newcastle and Man City are two of the clubs who have offered Deino a place on their boards, but he remains loyal to Arsenal, holding out for a way back into Ashburton. Still think its paper talk, but what would we know, we don't even know where West Ham is... ;)
A 'friend' of David Dein is quoted as saying 'last night': "David is still committed to Arsenal and despite the offers that came his way, he did not want to move on. At this moment he is not looking for work, even though he knows there could be consultancy offers from FIFA and UEFA. David is still a huge Arsenal supporter and that will not change. He has a lot of friends in football and he was gratified by the way they have rallied round him, but that is as far as he wants to take things..."
