Left back left.. Striker move shelved...

We are desperate for cover in the wing back position, aren’t we? Fans have been clamouring for some wing back signing. Something that tells me, Oh, Thank God, we took care of that! But what are the solutions being discussed. I think the only ones the media came up with were Wayne Bridge and Maxwell. I would rather have Almunia at left back than either of the two. He is more loyal than the former and more defensive than the latter. Signings for the sake of it in a team which would have to de-register someone to play that emergency left back sounds crazy.
And to be honest, Miguel and Coquelin have really impressed when they stepped in. Yennaris did not look that bad either. It seems crazy to me to sign some wing back who has no quality just because he has a left foot and a five digit salary. The only person I am willing to consider for a short term option is Abidal. At 32, he is not really over the hill. He is a winner, versatile enough to play centre back, DM and left back. French as well, so would slot right in. I would draft Abidal in for 4 million and sell Squillaci for a pack of groundnuts (That’s a little ambitious in terms of transfer fee for Squillaci). But if not Abidal, then nothing. Anyway, with the Gibbs story proceeding the way it is, it looks like we would need to buy a new left back in the summer.
Thinking about it, the January transfer window seems to doing an Avram Grant. Languid and standing by the side with no one taking notice. Before I continue cribbing about Arsenal not looking to sign a striker, a big salute to King Henry for scoring the way only he can! I don’t think Maradona can so perfectly execute that finish with such consistency as Henry does. Ok, back to cribbing. Why, Arsene why? Why no striker? Park Chu Young is not lasting 90 mins against reserves. Chamakh refuses to take a shot. Here is a shoutout to all the stat guys. How many shots has Chamakh attempted with the ball on his foot? I think its zero in the entire last year. I hope someone can show a video of him attempting a shot with his foot to two people- me and Chamakh.
Both of us have forgotten he can do such a thing. In the Leeds match, he actually swiveled when he was played in six yard from goal to a position where he is not expected to take a shot from. If anything, atleast get in a striker for six months. Not some 15326th choice striker of Chelsea like Kalou. Torres could not score. Drogba and Villas Boas do not suit each other. Anelka is off eating Hakka Noodles. Yet Kalou could not break into this team. How could he be part of any striking solution?
It has been looking like Juventus are trying to offload Amauri. Pato is not the happiest kid at AC Milan. Atleast a long term deal, Arsene, if not signing someone. Lets get some competition in. Even if Henry is a resounding success, what after February? Are we back to relying on the Moroccan and Korean to somehow reemerge from their extant mediocrity?
I hope we sort ourselves out before the Swansea game.
Liberty stadium is a tough place to go. And we follow it up with the small matter of a revenge fixture against United. United look beatable, but do we look like we can beat them?
I hope things improve in the interim. Come on, ye Gunners!
