Draw Blimey...
The warmed balls of death were cast upon man united for yesterday's FA Cup draw as we bid to make it third time lucky against man u at Old Trafford in the fifth round. We were drawn away following our win over Newcastle, and will travel to OT in the tie of the round. It goes without saying that Chelsea got the easiest draw of the round. You may remember that we have beaten man united the last two times we've met in the FA Cup, 2-0 at Old Trafford and on penalties in the final - one Patrick Vieira despatching the killer penalty...
Togo: 'Just a Little Thing'...
No, he's not talking about Ashley Cole's latest indiscretion, but the spat with Niklas Bendtner, during last weeks freak defeat by the freaks from the Lane. There were handbags and headbuts between Emanuel Adebayor, blown out of all proportion by the
biased media, but Adebayor insists it was nothing: "We are big guys, so we talk about it - but it is behind us already, I am number 25, and he is number 26, so in the dressing room we sit very close. Sometimes it does happen - a child can fight with his
father, and they are still friends..."
Ade added: "These are the things that make me laugh. Sometimes things like that happen on a football pitch. We have to take it in a positive way. We have our spirit and are together again as a family. We just want to achieve something together..."
Ade admitted: "It was just a little thing. I tried to motivate him and he took it in the wrong way, then I did a little bit - I have to work at that as well - but that is football. What happened is already behind us. It is finished. I do not want to look what happened yesterday. I want to look at tomorrow..."
Newcastle Beaten...
We ran out 3-0 winners against Newcastle in the first of our two meetings in four days. Two goals from Emanual Adebayor and an 'unfortunate' own goal from Nicky Butt saw us into the fifth round, where we'll face man united at Old Trafford, the scene of Tottenham's exit of the only domestic cup that counts...
Toure Relief...
Kolo Toure was thought to be out for up to three months after injuring his groin against Benin in the African Cup of Nations, but following a full assessment by Arsenal staff, its thought he'll only be out for ten days. An Arsenal medical spokesman type person said: "Kolo has a Grade One groin problem," he said. It will keep him out for eight to 10 days - but he will stay with the Ivory Coast squad for the rest of the tournament..."
You Can Have Him...
Sir Wenger denied showing any interest in Jonathan Woodgate in tonight's programme notes, and its thought that Aston Villa were the third interested club along with Newcastle and double title winning Spurs, who finally won the race to sign the player. Wenger said: “I do not know where that story came from, there is no truth in it at all. We have never been in touch with Middlesbrough about Jonathan Woodgate...” Here at ArsenalShorts, we sincerely wish Jonathan all the very best of luck at Spurs...
Beware of Owen...
Sir Wenger has told his players to expect fireworks from Michael Owen at the Emirates
tonight, and not underestimate the pint size poacher: "His match sharpness will come back with more games, on Tuesday night he will be sharper than against us on Saturday. You still feel that if you make a mistake, he will be there to take advantage of it as his runs are very intelligent. Against us in the FA Cup on Saturday, I was worried about him as I felt that if no-one was there, he would be there - on deflections he is in there. You see that the quality is there, but Owen is not yet 100 per cent..."
Regarding the race for the title, Sir Wenger said: "I believe that it will be tight until the end of the season. I watched Chelsea the other night. They had 11 players out and were still very strong. Who were not on the pitch were very experienced, so you can't discount Chelsea - they are winners as they have won the title before. It will be interesting. We have the smallest squad. That is why it is important that we do not have injuries..."
