Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal...
Too little, too late for us this season, as we finished the season with a 4 game winning streak, the only goal of our final game coming via a solo, mazy run from little Theo Walcott. Unfortunately, it was another run of four matches which undone our hard work earlier in the season, 4 draws on the bounce after Eduardo's leg was broken at Birmingham. At least we won't have to worry about them next season. Highlight of the season had to be our win at the San Siro, low point, pretty much throwing away what could have been an unassailable lead in February and March. Still, season's done now, no silverware (to speak of) for any London teams (yet) and we have improved our points tally, still finished an incredible 37 points clear of top four Tottenham...
Scorer-of-the-winner Theo has also been picked by Fabio Capello to face the USA at Wembley on May 28th, and then and to travel to Trinidad and Tobago... nice one Theo...
Wenger Ready to Shop...
After what if we have to be honest in terms of silverware was a disappointing season, Sir Wenger isn't hanging around. He wants to get our squad bolstered as soon as possible to be able to compete next season with man u and Chelsea in the league. We were only 4 points off the lead in the end, but many felt our squad was lacking in depth compared to the top two. Not know for his transfer spending, Sir Wenger sounds bullish ahead of what is about to be a busy close season for the Frenchman: "I know what I want and I am very confident. I hope to turn that around in the next two or three weeks. The fans should be re-assured by what they see. It would be better to buy someone who has played in England because they are less risky, but it costs more money if they are from the Premier League - maybe I will try to do both."
"It doesn't look like we have no team and we have to build a team. We were unbeaten at home and that is only the second time in the history of the club. We have done that with young players who will be better next season. If we are winners we come back and do it and that is what I expect from my team. I think the big core of the team is ready to come back and fight, and that all of them are determined to come back and win. Like every big disappointment you have in life you go through a period where you have to swallow and digest it and think 'Where do I go from here? Do I feel sorry for myself or do I fight and do something different?' After a while the players come together and there is a good togetherness in the squad. I feel they have created something special and not to take advantage of that would be criminal for me..."
Could Wenegr already have made a signing...?
Flamin' Akers...
Not a sexually transmitted disease, more a cry of exclaimation following the news that both Gary Lewin and Sir Victor Akers could be joining Mathieu Flamini on the way out of The Emirates. Kitman Akers, and ArsenalShorts mascot is rumoured to be off to concentrate on the Ladies team, and Gary Lewin to concentrate on his England duties... Full report and speculation here...
Mathieu Flamini has been speaking out about his controversial move to Inter Milan. The Italian Frenchman moved last week to Milan, and has said: "That [winning a trophy] would have weighed in the balance. It would certainly have counted. I had actually wanted to sign a new contract at Arsenal last July but it didn't happen. Milan did so much to sign me I couldn't refuse. What happened to us after leading the league for so long was the most painful experience I had during four years at Arsenal. It has hurt terribly to have invested so much of yourself, to have given everything, to have gone beyond pain and to fall short in the end. I hope with all my heart that Arsenal win the title next year. And I would love to play against them in the Champions League final next year..."
Yeah, good luck with that, Moley... and if you'd have played a bit better, we might have won the title... so YOU shut up...
